Police Records FAQ

How can I contact the Aurora Police Department Records Unit?

For assistance with a report request question, please contact the Records Unit at 303-739-6320. We are open 8 AM to 4PM everyday excluding Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

How do I obtain a Crash/Accident Report?

If an officer was dispatched and completed a crash report on scene (any reports taken after May 2021), the report can be purchased from a third-party site, CrashDocs.org. Crash reports are primarily used for information or insurance reporting. By clicking the link above, you will be directed to another website to purchase the report. In order to find your report, you must know the last name of an involved party and the date of the accident. Using the report (or reference) number is also used to quickly locate the correct report, but please make sure you enter the number exactly as it was given to you. Examples of report numbers: AP202212345 or 2022-12345.

If you completed an online crash report, the Aurora Police Department does not have access to obtain copies, please contact the Department of Revenue at 303.205.5600. That online report will not be available for purchase from the Aurora Police Department or the third-party website.

Which department should I select on the 'Make Request' page?

If you are requesting a copy of a police report, CAD call, arrest record, arrest booking photos or contact history, please select Police Records from the department selector.

If any part of your request will include body cam footage, images, dispatch audio recordings or the request is made on behalf of a media organization, please select Police - Colorado Criminal Justice Records Act. Questions about these requests may be made by calling 303.739.6043 and leaving a message.

What are the fees for requested records?

C.R.S. 24-72-306 permits the agency to charge reasonable fees, not to exceed actual costs, for the research, retrieval, and redaction of criminal justice records. The fees are established by the Aurora City Council. Please click here for a detailed fee schedule for 2024.

Use of Records to obtain information for solicitation:

C.R.S. 24-72-305.5(1) Records of official actions and criminal justice records and the names, addresses, telephone numbers, and other information in such records shall not be used by any person for the purpose of soliciting business for pecuniary gain. The official custodian shall deny any person access to records of official actions and criminal justice records unless such person signs a statement which affirms that such records shall not be used for the direct solicitation of business for pecuniary gain.

Important Note:

Some cases may not be authorized to be released by the APD Records Section due to the disposition of the case. For example, cases that are open and are still being actively investigated cannot be released until the case has achieved some type of disposition or authorization is received from the investigating Detective. Also, in some instances, report requests must be directed to the responsible District Attorney’s Office (17th/18th Judicial District) for release.
